Ö1 Talent Exchange

On Saturday, 23 May 2010, the brief five-minute portrait slot of radio channel Ö1 will be dedicated to Florian Ziller. Since 17 March, the master programme student of Industrial Design scionic® has been the proud wearer of a very special ring, the silver “Ring Award 2010”.
The coveted trophy – set in a combination of platinum, black enamel and gold – is considered an epitome of creativity, brilliance and strength by designers worldwide. Once a year, this honour is bestowed by ICIAD, the International Council of Interior Architects and Designers, in the context of a large-scale event in Hong Kong. The jury, which is composed of university professors, designers and entrepreneurs from all over the world, singled out Florian Ziller in the Student category for his unusual sunshade “Parasol”. The object consists of a steel structure with vertical textile lamellas. Despite its perforated design, it offers sufficient protection against sunlight. “The position of the lamellas is calculated to make sure that at the moment of summer solstice in Linz, when the sun is at 65 degrees to the earth’s surface, half of them will cast a homogeneous or full shade while the other half casts a half-shade”, Ziller explains, “much like a sparse, sun-dappled forest.” more
