Duration of programme: 6 semesters. The bachelor programme Graphic Design and Photography offers a broad and comprehensive curriculum that enables graduates both to handle the conceptual, design-related, technical and organisational aspects of freelance artistic projects and to work in the creative industries, a field undergoing constant change. The programme allows for two individual focuses, i.e. Graphic Design and Photography.
Graphic Design focus
The Graphic Design focus aims at the development and design of visual messages communicated through images and text and based on the students’ artistic design skills and application of the latest scientific findings and methods, which are taught systematically and with strong practice orientation. A key priority lies in sharpening the students’ ability to gauge aesthetic, social and technical-industrial givens and their interactions to lay a firm basis for responsible design.
Photography focus
Objectives of this study focus include the communication and practice of fundamental knowledge of analog and digital photography, the sharpening of perception through interaction with space (perspective vision), time and light, the development of an individual visual language and approach to photography, the work with photography – including the different aspects of photographic image production and exploitation – as well as the use of photography in the media and in art.
All creative branches of the media and service sector harbour career options for graduates of the programme Graphic Design and Photography. One key task lies in visualising information in print media (verbally and/or as images), three-dimensionally and in other media or digital formats. In addition to commercial work, personal development to embrace an independent artistic career in the disciplines of graphic design and photography is also part and parcel of the skills profile. Providing graduates with the qualifications necessary to succeed in the commercial as well as in the artistic sphere supports and fosters their ability to formulate and develop new career options on their own. It is highly recommended that students embark on a follow-up master programme to acquire in-depth professional knowledge in the career and activity fields specified above.
