The programme Experimental Art is concerned with teaching the diversity of different visual and auditory "languages”.
A variety of media such as video, photography, experimental film, sound, computer-based techniques as well as drawing, performance etc. are employed in the process. The choice of one or more of these media in translating artistic concepts into reality derives from the respective concept itself.
Annual themes – usually centred on topical developments in society and their relevance for creative production – form the discursive framework of projects elaborated individually or within a group. Collaborative participation in the respective theme of the year is non-compulsory and offers an alternative option to individual thematic focuses.
Annual theme for the 2007/08 academic year: THE DARK SIDE OF GLAMOUR. Fascination. Profanity. Black humour.
A comprehensive volume on the programme Experimental Art was published in March 2007: "wir müssen weiter denken als unsere pistolen schiessen – Die Experimentelle Gestaltung an der Kunstuniversität Linz 2002-2006"
