Inter-curricular workshop 2010
Design and Technology, Architecture, Industrial Design, space&designstrategies
A six-day workshop sets itself the goal of creating a cylindrical raft with a diameter of 3.80 m. Due to its reflecting outside with a height of approx. 3 m, the raft is to blend visually with its surroundings. Situated at the centre of the lake, it can be reached with a small two-person dinghy. The inside is composed of netting and offers space for 2 to 3 persons. The cylinder is moored and centred with concrete weights.
The cylindrical shape is to create an oasis of peace that provides a place to withdraw to during the very animated summer months, thereby reviving the traditional image of Pleschingersee as a haven of peace and recreation. The few persons accommodated inside this space enjoy a unique spatial experience that conveys a shared yet individual sensation of comfort, protection and tranquillity.
