Interface Cultures The communicative and ritual aspects of having a meal go through steady changes.
Fast food and convenience food changed our eating behaviour radically. One of the consequences is that individual snacks exchange ritual meals within a family. Even if we eat high quality foods, we are still lacking time for an extensive meal.
The installation quotes a folksy Austrian dining table, but it is cooped up between walls and only usable by one person at the time. Snacks are offered next to it, these have to be placed on the table to activate the “Suppenbrunzer” and start the interaction. The whole procedure only takes a few seconds, the “Suppenbrunzer” therefore adapts itself to the prevalent food culture. Fast Food und Convenience Food haben unser Essverhalten grundlegend geändert. Eine Folge davon ist etwa der Ersatz des einst rituellen Essens innerhalb der Familie durch individuelle Imbisse. Auch wenn wir qualitativ hochwertige Lebensmittel zu uns nehmen, fehlt uns oft die Zeit in den vollen Genuss einer Mahlzeit zu kommen.
Die Installation ist ein Zitat einer volkstümlichen österreichischen Esssituation. Ein kleiner Tisch, jedoch eingepfercht zwischen Wänden und nur von einer Person nutzbar, darüber hängt der „Suppenbrunzer“. Daneben stehen Snacks bereit, welche vor dem Verzehr auf dem Tischchen abgestellt werden um den „Suppenbrunzer“ zu aktivieren und die Interaktion zu starten. Dies ist binnen weniger Sekunden erledigt, der „Suppenbrunzer“ passt sich somit den Gegebenheiten der vorherrschenden Esskultur an.
